Do I need to be at home for my COD delivery?
Yes, please make sure you are home during delivery.

What are your regular delivery hours?
Our regular delivery hours are 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., from Monday through Saturday. These times may vary based on the season and weather conditions. You can schedule a non-emergency delivery online, by clicking here.

How do I know how much oil to order?
You will need to measure the amount of oil left in your tank. To do this, you may purchase a measuring stick from us or simply use a long thin stick. You'll need to use a stick that's at least 8 feet long if the oil tank is underground. You can use a shorter stick if the tank is above the ground. Either way, you must be able to reach down to the bottom of the tank.

Hold the measuring stick as straight as possible while you lower it into the tank. Once you feel it touch the bottom, lift it back out. Check to see how far up the heating oil reached. Then, read the number in inches. If you are using a plain long stick, hold it up straight while you lower it into the heating oil tank. When you feel it hit the bottom, lift it back up and remove it. Use a ruler to measure the distance from the wet end of the stick to the highest place the oil reached. To convert the number of inches of oil you find into the number of actual gallons, you need to know the volume and shape of your tank. That's where the chart to the right comes in handy. For example, if you have a 275-gallon horizontal tank with seven inches of oil left in it, you have approximately 62 gallons left.

How low on oil is too low?
We recommend that you don't let your tank go below one-quarter full. Thus, for a 275-gallon tank, 62 gallons would be less than a quarter full, and it would be time to call LongIslandCOD.com.

What if I'd rather not check oil levels?
If you would rather not check oil levels and call for deliveries, why not take advantage of our FREE automatic delivery service. With automatic delivery, we will automatically determine when you need fuel by using degree day monitoring. You don't need to place a call for your delivery; instead, we will automatically deliver fuel on a regular basis and you will be assured of never running out. What do I do if my heat shuts off?
Please follow these steps before making what might be an unnecessary emergency call:

1. Make sure the emergency switch is in the "on" position (there may be two: one at the stairs and one at the boiler), and turn up the thermostat at least 10 degrees higher than the actual room temperature.
   
   
2. Next, listen carefully. Within a few minutes you should hear your boiler or furnace hum into action.
   
   
3. If the equipment doesn't start up, press the reset button on your burner's relay just once.

If your system still doesn't start, consider these points before calling us for what might be an unnecessary service call:

• Did the fuse or circuit breaker for your equipment trip?
• Is the thermostat set properly?
• Is there oil in the tank?
• If you have a boiler, is the water level sufficient?

Is Oilheat economical?
Oilheat has been a better value than gas heat in New York for the majority of the past 20 years, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Oilheat means more hot water: Oil-fired hot water heaters make faster, cheaper, hotter hot water than gas or electric.

Is Oilheat safe?
Nothing beats the safety record of Oilheat. Heating oil is not explosive, and inhalation of fuel oil fumes is not lethal. What's more, if you have a system malfunction, an oil-heating system will give you tell-tale signs such as smoke, odors or even soot before releasing dangerous levels of carbon monoxide (CO). Gas heating systems give you no warning of CO production or release.

Is Oilheat clean?
Heating oil burns so cleanly that its emissions aren't even regulated by the Federal Clean Air Act, and new fuel formulations are coming to market that integrate renewable biofuel and ultra low sulfur heating oil. A blend of ultra low sulfur heating oil that contains 12 percent biofuel burns with lower emissions than natural gas.
